Generic silk filaments trade strength for shine: slow the outer wall for gloss and you get brittle, delaminating parts. Silk+ is engineered with improved layer bonding, so it fully supports that adjustment. Cured parts reach 33 MPa tensile strength, 75 MPa bending strength and 18.5 kJ/m² impact strength - real, usable prints that also look brilliant.

Slow the Outer Wall for Gloss

Drop the outer wall speed to around 50 mm/s. This is what makes silk shine - and unlike generic silk, Silk+'s improved layer bonding fully supports it, so you don't pay for the gloss with weak parts.

Dry Before Use

Silk+ ships dried and vacuum-sealed, but transport can add moisture. Dry right after opening: 55°C for 8 hours in a blast drying oven, or 65-75°C for 12 hours on an X1 heatbed.

Store Sealed with Desiccant

Keep humidity below 20% RH - store in a sealed container with desiccant or in the AMS. Repeat drying before each long-term storage period for consistent results.

Use a Concentric Top Pattern

Setting the top surface pattern to concentric follows the shape of the part, so the silk sheen flows across top shells instead of breaking up along straight lines.

Start at 210-240°C

Run the nozzle at 210-240°C with a 35-45°C bed (use glue for adhesion) and keep speeds under 250 mm/s. Tune within that window for your printer and colour.

How is PLA Silk+ different from regular silk filament?
Generic silk filament looks great but bonds poorly between layers - slow the outer wall for gloss and parts turn brittle. Silk+ is Bambu Lab's upgraded formula with improved layer adhesion, so you get the chrome-like shine AND usable strength (33 MPa tensile, 18.5 kJ/m² impact).
Do I need to post-process the prints to get the shine?
